Global Academic Collaboration in Practice: FST Students Participate in Mobility Program at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)

Two Industrial Engineering students (Ihda Rifqi Fardani and Ardi Tirto) have completed their outbound international student mobility program at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) from September 2025 to February 2026. During the program, they attended academic courses and participated in various cultural activities, including visits to Melaka, the World Money History exhibition, and other intercultural programs.

During one semester of their mobility at UTHM, they had a wonderful experience that broadened their horizons. Their adaptability and communication skills were significantly enhanced throughout the program. They also built friendships with local students as well as fellow Indonesian students. On special occasions, they proudly performed traditional Indonesian dances, promoting cultural exchange and strengthening international friendship.

At the end of their mobility program, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), through the International Office (IO), organized a Global Sharing Session to provide a platform for the students to share their international learning experiences with the academic community.  The event aimed to disseminate international academic experiences and inspire students to actively participate in global mobility programs. The online session was conducted on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, from 09.00 to 11.00 WIB via Zoom Meeting and was attended by students interested in international learning opportunities and cross-cultural engagement. The session featured two outbound mobility awardees from the Industrial Engineering program students, Ihda Rifqi Fardani and Ardi Tirto.  Both speakers are recipients of the Outbound Mobility program and shared their academic, cultural, and professional experiences during their mobility period at UTHM.

The International Office Affairs of the Faculty of Science and Technology manages an international mobility program that enables students to gain academic and cultural experiences at partner universities abroad. This program offers students opportunities to broaden their academic perspectives, develop intercultural competencies, and enhance their global networking skills.

The event was designed in a talk show format and moderated by Aura, a student from the Industrial Engineering program. Dr. Lela Susilawati, Head of the International Office Affairs of the Faculty of Science and Technology, in her remarks emphasized that the event was designed to encourage students to broaden their knowledge and perspectives through international academic experiences abroad. She highlighted the importance of global exposure in preparing students to become competitive graduates equipped with intercultural understanding and international academic insight.

During the session, participants gained valuable insights into academic learning environments at an international partner university, cross-cultural communication and adaptation experiences, benefits of international mobility for academic and career development, practical preparation strategies for students planning to join mobility programs.

This activity reflects the commitment of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, particularly the Faculty of Science and Technology, to strengthening internationalization initiatives and expanding global engagement opportunities for students. Through programs such as this sharing session, the faculty continues to support experiential learning and international collaboration.
